Callan Method Lesson: “Everyday Conversations”

Objective:

To reinforce speaking and listening skills through structured repetition and conversation practice.

Materials Needed:

  • Callan Method textbooks or resources
  • Whiteboard/flipchart and markers
  • Timer or stopwatch

Lesson Outline:

1. Revision (5 minutes)

  • Quick Revision:
    • Begin the lesson by reviewing the previous lesson’s content briefly. Use the Callan Method’s structured repetition to revisit vocabulary, grammar points, or phrases covered previously.

2. New Vocabulary Introduction (10 minutes)

  • Introduce New Vocabulary:
    • Use the Callan Method’s direct questioning technique to introduce new vocabulary related to everyday conversations. Cover greetings, introductions, common phrases, and questions.

3. Speaking Practice (25 minutes)

  • Structured Conversation Practice (20 minutes):
    • Use the Callan Method’s question-and-answer format to engage students in structured conversations. Ask questions related to the introduced vocabulary, and have students respond using the newly learned phrases.
  • Pair Work (5 minutes):
    • Divide students into pairs. Assign each pair a conversation topic related to the new vocabulary. Encourage them to take turns asking and answering questions.

4. Listening Comprehension (15 minutes)

  • Listening Exercise (10 minutes):
    • Play an audio recording or use a dialogue from the Callan Method materials. Ask students to listen carefully and answer comprehension questions based on what they heard.
  • Discussion (5 minutes):
    • Engage students in a brief discussion about what they understood from the audio, using the Callan Method’s question-led approach.

5. Recap and Summary (5 minutes)

  • Recap of Lesson (3 minutes):
    • Summarize the key points covered during the lesson using the Callan Method’s repetition technique.
  • Feedback (2 minutes):
    • Encourage students to provide feedback about the lesson. Use prompting questions to engage them and help them reflect on their learning experience.

Conclusion:

Emphasize the importance of continuous practice and encourage students to review the material outside of class to reinforce their learning.

Assessment:

Assess students based on their participation in speaking exercises, comprehension of the listening activity, and their ability to use the new vocabulary in structured conversations.

The Callan Method relies on a structured and repetitive approach to reinforce language learning. Adapt the pace and complexity of the lesson based on the students’ progress and understanding of the material.
