What is the weather like today?

Lesson Plan: Weather Report

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to describe different types of weather and present a weather report as a real reporter.

Materials:

  • Pictures or illustrations depicting various types of weather (sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy, windy, etc.)
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Props such as umbrellas, sunglasses, raincoats, etc. (optional)
  • Recording device or video camera (optional)

Warm-up (5 minutes):

  1. Begin with a discussion about weather. Ask students what types of weather they know and how they feel about them.
  2. Show pictures or illustrations of different types of weather and have students guess their names in English.

Introduction (10 minutes):

  1. Introduce the concept of a weather report. Explain that like real reporters, they will be giving a report on the weather.
  2. Teach weather-related vocabulary such as “sunny,” “cloudy,” “rainy,” “windy,” etc.
  3. Practice pronunciation and repetition of the new words with the class.

Main Activity – Weather Report (20 minutes):

  1. Divide the class into small groups.
  2. Provide each group with a weather condition (sunny, rainy, etc.).
  3. Give students time to brainstorm and plan their weather report. Encourage them to think about what a real weather reporter would say and do.
  4. Have each group present their weather report to the class. They can use props or act out scenes to make it more engaging.
  5. Encourage the rest of the class to listen carefully and take notes on the weather conditions presented by each group.

Consolidation (10 minutes):

  1. Review the weather vocabulary and expressions learned during the activity.
  2. Ask students to share their favorite weather conditions and explain why they like them.
  3. Play a short weather-related game or activity to reinforce learning, such as a weather-themed crossword puzzle or a matching game with weather words and pictures.

Assessment (5 minutes):

  1. Evaluate students based on their participation in the weather report activity, including their use of vocabulary, pronunciation, and creativity.
  2. Provide feedback and praise for their efforts and improvements.

Closure (5 minutes):

  1. Summarize the key points of the lesson and thank students for their participation.
  2. Assign any homework, such as practicing weather vocabulary or watching a weather report in English at home.

Extension:

  • For advanced students, encourage them to include more descriptive language and expressions in their weather reports.
  • Integrate technology by recording the weather reports and playing them back for the class or creating a weather report video project.
